New Art Exhibition Launched

Starting Tuesday 15 October, we’re excited to present a new exhibition in the dining room: Proximal Orbit by Steph Fuller. We encourage all members to visit, as the intricacy and vibrancy of these works truly need to be experienced in person – photos just don’t capture their full impact.

Additionally, join us for a special ‘Meet the Artist’ event on Tuesday 29 October, from 1:00 – 3:00pm. This is a unique opportunity to meet Steph Fuller, along with Praxis’ Gallery Director and Founder, and enjoy wine tastings from Praxis ARTSPACE sponsor, Ortus Wines. No bookings are required and members are welcome to bring guests.

If you wish to purchase any of the pieces, please contact Clubhouse Operations Manager Lynn via lynn@royaladelaidegolf.com.au.

About the Exhibition

Proximal Orbit is a series of photographic works motivated by a yearning to participate in the exploration of outer space. Limited to earthbound subject matter, artist Steph Fuller uses common objects and the human body to recreate sights usually reserved for astronauts. The act of making the work served as a form of extra-terrestrial exploration and documentation – that which Fuller’s status of non-astronaut would otherwise preclude her from. The use of objects that are knowable (things that you can touch or behold) is Fuller’s way of bridging the distance between herself and the unknowable realm that is outer space.

About the Artist Steph Fuller

Fuller’s practice oscillates between longing and loss. Her work is primarily image-based, favouring dark pensive tones and intentional slippage between the macro and micro.

Her post-illness work is marked by a willingness to interrogate able-bodied convention and perform labor through metaphor. A new scarcity of capacity brings restraint to her practice, but permits a wider material vocabulary and fuels a desire to occupy more space than before.

About Praxis

Praxis ARTSPACE is an independently run contemporary gallery, established in 2015 in Bowden by Artistic Director Patty Chehade. As a curated exhibition space, Praxis assists and supports distinctive contemporary ventures by Australian artists at all stages of their career, providing art collectors and buyers with the opportunity to purchase artworks at the forefront of contemporary practice. The gallery takes its name from the ancient Greek philosophers’ word ‘praxis’ – promoting the act of engaging, applying, exercising, realising, or practicing thoughts and ideas.
