Semi Final
Royal Adelaide 2 lost to West Lakes 3
Monday 1st July at West Lakes Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
A leisurely start at Kooyonga for a 10.30am tee off for our semi final against the 3rd placed West Lakes for a spot in the finals next week saw the worst of the cold weather behind us for a stunning, perfect weather type golf day. All five matches were extraordinarily tight with never more than 2 games between any of our players.
Playing at number 5 Amelia Porter showed some good promise going up 2 holes early, and from there it was a see-sawing affair, with her being one down coming down the 18th hole. After a few awkward shots Amelia played an 8 iron out of the fairway bunker to put her ball on the green for four, and her opponent was in the greenside bunker for 3 and unfortunately Amelia lost the hole finishing 2 down.
Penny Mills, playing at number 4 was 2 holes down early, but managed to pull it back, and likewise, was 1 down going down the 18th hole and unfortunately lost the 18th to finish 2 down as well.
Number 3 was a lucky number for Di Moore, who was very even all day, eventually finishing 2 up on the 17th hole, and Ali Coventry playing in the number 2 position had a hard fought win on the 18th being 1 up. It was a tough day for Pam Hamilton playing number 1 position and whilst being down early finished on the 17th down 2/1.
So unfortunately we lost the semi final 3 – 2. A big thank you to the caddies today, and the supporters who came out to cheer us on today, and all through out the season. It has been a bit tricky managing a 15 person squad for the season but I must pay tribute to every player who meet team selection, playing, caddying and supporting with good grace and good humour – it’s been a pleasure to be involved with this team who always did their best representing our Club with honour.
Round 7
Royal Adelaide 4 defeated Kooyonga 1
Monday 24th June at West Lakes Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
It was a cold and chilly start to the day, with the news one of our team had to withdraw with illness and the reserve was to be utilised. A nervous and tentative start to the matches with some up, some down and some square over the first 9 holes.
The first to finish was Sandy Hayes who unfortunately came up against an opponent in blistering form to lose 8/7. The next to finish was Amelia Porter with a hard fought 2/1 win, closely followed by Toffee Perkins also winning with a 2/1 score line. Rosie Newland had a fabulous tee shot onto the 16th par 3 to win her match 3/2, and our tenacious captain Ali Coventry battled back from 4 down to finish 2 up on the 18th hole.
In all, a 4 – 1 win which propelled us into 2nd place on the ladder. Our semi-final will be against West Lakes at Kooyonga next Monday 1st July.

Round 6
Royal Adelaide 4.5 defeated Tea Tree Gully 0.5
Monday 17th June at Royal Adelaide Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
A fresh early start for our home course round against Tea Tree Gully, newcomers to the Cleek 1 competition this year.
Jane Bartlett led off in frosty conditions at 8.00am and had a very tight match all the way, suitably finishing square after 18 holes. Penny Mills played in number four position and once again, a see-sawing match – finishing one up on the 18th. Sophie Gosse was at one stage 3 up with the benefit of local course knowledge and ended on the 17th with a score of 2/1. Deb Weir’s match went the distance and was successful on the 18th with a final score of 1 up and Captain Ali Coventry was the first to finish at the railway line with a convincing 6/5 win.
A resounding 4.5 – 0.5 result, which has been the case for most of the home teams in the Cleek 1. As it said in the mid-season wrap up, it is a very close competition – even with only one round to play before finals.

Round 5
Royal Adelaide 3.5 defeated West Lakes 1.5
Monday 3rd June at Blackwood Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
A cold, fresh early start today at Upper North Adelaide had the team keen and ready for a good day. All through to the 12th hole with four players up and one down.
The first to finish was Judy Willoughby with a resounding 5/4 win, and then Toffee Perkins had very satisfying 2/1 win on the 17th. Right behind her was Sandy Hayes who unfortunately had the same numbers reversed. Liz Fahlbusch-Moore took her match to the 18th hole to finish at square after a see-sawing day. Playing in the Number 1 position, Rosie Newland had a nerve wracking last three holes being 3 up with 3 to go, lost the 16th and 17th and played beautifully to win the 18th hole, finishing 2 up.
The end result was a 3.5 – 1.5 result. The leader board in Cleek 1 is very tight with only 1.5 points between first and last.

Round 4
Royal Adelaide 4 defeated Thaxted Park 1
Monday 27th May at Blackwood Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
With apologies to the farmers, gardeners and grounds people, today was the most perfect golf weather, warm, sunny, no wind and Blackwood Golf Club was very dry (as opposed to last year when it was under water).
We have finally tasted success with a stunning 4 – 1 victory over Thaxted Park, with our Captain Ali Coventry securing an outstanding 8/7 win in the number one position, whilst fighting off bronchitis and a bad back. Sophie Gosse had a much harder task against a very steady opponent who ended up the better with a 2/1 loss after a seesawing affair on the 17th hole. Penny Mills first game for the Cleek team was successful securing a 4/3 win that was square after the 12th hole. Di Moore was successful on the 17th hole with a 3/1 win after being square most of the day and Amelia Porter managed her third win in a row with a very strong 4/3 win.

Round 3
Royal Adelaide 2 lost to North Adelaide 3
Monday 20th May at Tea Tree Gully Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
Round 3 saw the Cleek squad head for the hills again, this time north to Tea Tree Gully for the first time in many years due to their promotion last year.
Cool but fine conditions greeted the golfers but unfortunately the golfing gods were not on our side with only Amelia Porter winning 1 up in the fifth position and Jude Willoughby hanging on for a nail biting 2 up win on the 18th, playing no 1.
Unfortunately this means we are bottom of the ladder in Cleek 1 without a win to date. We can take comfort that last year was not dissimilar with a very even competition, anything can happen.

Round 2
Royal Adelaide 2 lost to Blackwood 3
Monday 13th May at Blackwood Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
What a stunning day for golf – and having had a practice round at Thaxted earlier in the year we felt prepared for the rematch against last year’s finalists.
Over the first 12 holes we were very evenly matched, with two up, two down and one square, having watched Deb Weir chip in on the third for a birdie 3, and Pam Hamilton chip in on the 12th also for a birdie 3.
Sophie Gosse prevailed to win 5/4 on the 14th, and unfortunately the 4th saw the end of Deb Weir’s match ending 6/4 – not in her favour. Pam Hamilton finished on the 16th, unfortunately losing a close match 3/2.
Following the number 1 and 2 groups down the 17th, Rosie Newland finally won on the 17th, 2/1, whilst Jude Willoughby came down the 18th square – just losing on the putting green to be 1 down.
So close – but no win.

Round 1
Royal Adelaide 1 lost to Mount Osmond 4
Monday 6th May at Mount Osmond Golf Club
Report courtesy of Louise Walters
It was a tough assignment first up for the Cleek team today with perfect conditions at Mount Osmond and visibility at a premium.
A fairly even start was had by all, however all five members were down by the 9th hole, with Deb Wallman and Amelia Porter both only one down.
Jane Bartlett found the going tough and whilst hitting some lovely shots found a few bunkers and exited on the 12th with a 8/6 loss. Liz Fahlbusch-Moore’s first outing for Cleek was probably one she’d rather forget with a 7/6 loss, also at the 12th.
Di Moore and Deb Wallman had very tight matches finishing up on the 18th, both with a 2 down results.
Our one shining light was Amelia Porter had a 3/2 win on the 16th in her first game at the Cleek level.
