“IN WAR, THERE IS NO PRIZE FOR RUNNER UP.”

Introducing the 2023 Ackland Horman Trophy and Men’s Club Dinner, with guest speaker Rob Manton.

Rob Manton enjoyed a 30-year career in the Australian Regular Army. Employed primarily in operational roles he commanded Australian soldiers at every rank level from Lieutenant to Colonel. His operational service included peacekeeping roles in the Middle East and war fighting roles embedded with US forces in Iraq. His final appointment in uniform was as the Military Advisor to Australia’s Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

Anyone who falls into the habit of thinking and expecting the best of their subordinates at all times is, for that reason alone, unsuited to command.”

Following his transition from the Army, Rob was appointed as the Director, Veterans SA within the South Australian Government before coordinating the government’s response to the Black Summer bushfires on Kangaroo Island in 2019/20.

Rob joined Royal Adelaide as a member in 2019.
