Well it wasn’t the result we were hoping for and it couldn’t have been closer with 2 matches for, 2 matches against, and the 5th going down extra holes.
While we didn’t win, there are plenty of positives we can draw from this year:
- We were undefeated in the minor rounds
- Our depth allowed us to fill the team with more talented golfers when people were away, and we still held our own
- Broke a 10-year final drought
- Sophie Hilditch and Bekky Stutley selected in the Team of the Year with Sophie named captain
- 12-year old Katie Seol, yes, her golf is good, but she’s also a lovely and balanced young lady
- And of course, Anne Arnfield’s brownies
We look forward to doing it all again in 2024 and bringing home the trophy.

Semi Final
Royal Adelaide 3 defeated Glenelg 2
Sunday 2nd July at Royal Adelaide Golf Club

A frosty but clear winter’s morning greeted us at RAGC for the 2023 semi-final against Glenelg. The course in magnificent condition especially considering the recent amount of precipitation.
Despite completing our minor round season undefeated and on top of the ladder we had a few very close matches so we knew we had to be on our game. All players were well prepared thanks to coaching staff and initiative shown by players.
Raegan Denton, playing 1, dominated from the start being 5 up after 6 and going on to win her round 4/3 playing stunning golf.
Sophie Hilditch playing at 2 took a little time to warm up being 2 down at 6 but then finding her straps with an eagle at 15 and going on to win 2/1.
Katie Seol playing at 3, and being our youngest at 12 years of age, played the round of the week. Katie was 2 down at 10 despite a birdie at 3 (the first time round). Katie has come from behind each week.
1 down at 16.
All square at 18.
All square at 19 with a par.
All square at 20 with a birdie including an amazing shot from the left fairway bunker, followed by a beautiful chip onto the green past the pin by 2-5 m and a down hill sliding putt that found the hole.
Onto the 21st. Beautiful drive down onto the flat. A chip over the mound to within 15 cm and was given the putt for the win progressing us to the final.
A most commendable 21 holes.
Bekky Stutley played beautiful golf all day in a tight match being up by 1 or 2 all day.
Square at 18.
Square after 19.
All square onto the green at 20 with her opponent sinking a 4m putt to win the match.
Eliza Bartlett played steady golf all day but not as steady as her opponent, who was probably level with the card, loosing 4/3.
We are well prepared for the final against Kooyonga at Kooyonga next Sunday.
The team greatly appreciated the support of our members and especially the Royal Roadies and would love to see you all out again next Sunday.

It was a freezing but dry Sunday with strong winds that confronted us for the final minor round of the Sanderson Cup pennant season at Glenelg against Southern Districts.
With two of our first string line up away playing the Victorian Junior Amateur (Raegan Denton and Katie Seol) and Caitlin competing in the USA, we discovered the excellent depth of our squad. Eliza Bartlett and Laura Birchmore joined our team from the Pike Squad.
Sophie Hilditch led all the way and won 4/3.
Bekky Stutley found herself elevated from 4th to 2nd and had a resounding win 7/5.
Alice Cho played her second match for Sanderson, after being elevated from the Sharp Cup team the previous week and kept her winning streak going with a 6/5 win.
Eliza Bartlett halved her match and Laura Birchmore won 1 up.
Our Sanderson team has finished on top of the ladder and will take on Glenelg at Royal Adelaide next Sunday in the knockout semi final.
Our team would love to see as many members as possible out supporting us in a bid to go “all the way”.

No rain on our parade this week, it was a perfect winter’s day! Tough and gutsy win to RAGC.
Bekky steady as she went all day winning 4/2.
Katie settling into the Sanderson Cup team well with an amazing come back from 4 down after 8 to be 1 up coming down 18 and squaring her match. Katie showed a steadfast determination and maturity beyond her 12 years. Well done Katie.
Sophie played beautiful golf wining 4/3.
Raegan had a tough tussle all day, usually squaring holes with pars but finally went down 2/1.
The birthday girl Caitlin was evenly matched on the day squaring her match.
Great win to RAGC sitting second on ladder.
Best of luck to Caitlin who has played her last match for us before she heads off to UK and USA.
Many thanks to those Royal Roadies who made it out to support us. The girls loved it.
While we have a week off from Pennant this weekend the girls will be putting in a practice round at South Lakes on Monday in preparation for the following week’s match against The Grange at South Lakes.

Bekky Stutely was solid from the start winning 3/1.
Sophie Hilditch shot 4-under par for her 16 holes played winning 4/2.
Raegan Denton hit shot of the day through heavy trees (try spotting her playing her shot in the image on the right) onto the green on 16 eventually closing out a close match 1 up.
Caitlin Peirce played the back nine like the champion she is winning 3/2.
