Senior Pennant 2024 – Week 1 and Week 2

Week 1

Monday 23 September was the first match of the 2024 Senior Pennant season. This match begins the quest for RA to be successful in Division 2 and return to Division 1 in 2025.

The team selected to play The Stirling at Mount Osmond was Rod Phillips, Leigh Carpenter, Eddie Bell, Gavan Fox, Rob Manton, Nick Walters, and David Cherry.

The two youngsters, Eddie and Nick made their debut in Senior Pennant and did it in grand style with Eddie prevailing 6&5 and Nick cruising to 7&6.

Overall the team won 6&1 with Rod, Gavan and David all winning and Rob and Leigh securing halves.

A great start to the year!

Next week we take on West Lakes at Grange East with Tim Pozza and Greg Chappell as ins. Nick Walters unluckily sits it out this week after his crushing win, as the competition for spots heats up.

Week 2

Welcome to week two of the senior pennant season and RA’s journey to return to Division 2.

This week the team included No 1 player Tim Pozza and ever reliable Greg Chappell.

The match was played at Grange East on a perfect spring day against West Lakes.

The manager having been dropped, had the opportunity to be non playing and nervously watch the matches unfold.

After a somewhat shaky start we were on an even footing early before pulling away in 5 of the matches after 9 holes. The other two matches were also close with RA 1 down in both at the turn.

Eventually the team prevailed 4.5 to 2.5 with strong performances from Gavan Fox, Eddie Bell, Greg Chappell and David Cherry. Rod Phillips hung on for a half. Rob Manton played strongly but could never quite bridge the slim deficit, eventually going down by 2 holes. Tim Pozza was shaking his head at his opponents ability to get up and down and Tim lost 1 down. His opponent was at worst 2 over the card when they shook hands after 18 holes.

Overall a strong performance against a danger team. We are back on the 14 October after the long weekend break, to take on Mt Osmond at home.
