JOAN LAWTON CANADIAN FOURSOMES STABLEFORD – Tuesday 15th October. Congratulations Darlene Newitt and Carolyn Pigot

The annual Joan Lawton event was held on Tuesday 15th October. I’m not sure what it is with the Joan Lawton event but it has a habit of producing interesting weather events. Early morning all eyes were cast to the sky to try and determine if we were to be experiencing a Cumulonimbus cloud cluster. Given the wind rate some may have been hoping for the CCC to arrive.
Fortunately or not fortunately depending on your view it didn’t eventuate and entrants went off in search of grappling hooks to try and keep their golf balls anchored to the 16th green.
The Joan Lawton is always interesting with a low marker paired with a high marker often leaving teams playing from unfamiliar locations on the course in the Canadian Foursomes event. It was Darlene Newitt and Carolyn Pigot who adjusted best which was admirable as they had very little time for team tactics as due to illness they were only paired together last minute.
A big congratulations to Carolyn who has only recently joined the club and made the grandest of entrants in her maiden named event at Royal Adelaide. It might actually be a record for fastest player to have their name engraved on a trophy. Darlene and Carolyn won the event by one shot from Runners Up Deb Wallman and Liz Fahlbusch-Moore with Susan Hunt and Claire Sweeney in third on a countback.
The club was honoured to have family relation of Joan, Jane Hogarth present the prize winners their trophy on the day.

After a quick bite to eat and presentations it was off to the Putting Green for the Putting Trophy final in a devilish course plotted by our very own Kooyonga Club Champion Heath Riches. If someone sees Heath tell him its safe to come back. 2021 Putting Trophy winner, Jan Van de Worp, put that experience to good use adding the 2024 title to her trophy cabinet with a one shot win over Jo Reeve with Ali White a further shot back.
