Winemakers of Seaton

With daylight saving fast approaching, we’re thrilled to launch the Winemakers of Seaton season!

Held monthly on Wednesday afternoons during the daylight saving months (excluding December), this event offers the perfect mix of a relaxed 9-hole Stableford competition, followed by wine tastings and a barbecue at the Clubhouse. Prefer to join just for the wine and BBQ? You’re more than welcome!

Tee-off is at 4:00pm, with golf played across two 9-hole loops: holes 5 to 13 and holes 14 to 4. Prizes will be awarded to the best male and female players.

Members are invited to bring guests, who can take advantage of a discounted green fee of just $40 (inclusive of competition fee).

After golf, we’ll fire up the BBQ with chef-selected meats available for purchase, ready for you to cook, alongside a variety of fresh salads.

Savour wine tastings from our members’ wineries, with exclusive discounts on any wines purchased on the night. Plus, all wine orders go into the draw for a special prize, courtesy of the winemaker.

Bookings for each Winemakers of Seaton event open four weeks in advance, with the October event featuring Hentley Farm now open for reservations. Here are the details:

Our 2024/25 Winemakers of Seaton

Wednesday 9 October

Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke, who had a single vision to craft exceptional single estate wines from the Barossa Valley.

Prior to this, Keith acquired impressive credentials studying Agricultural Science and Wine Marketing at Roseworthy College, where he graduated with the prestigious Gramp Hardy Smith Memorial Prize for the college’s most outstanding student, and garnered extensive experience working in the wine industry.

He made good use of these years, searching for the perfect site and consulting with local winemakers and viticulturalists, who told him to ‘Head north west (Barossa) and look for the red/brown soil over limestone’.

Using an old soil map from the 1950’s to strategically locate the best parcels of land, they discovered a mixed farming property set among the rolling hills on the banks of Greenock Creek in Barossa’s west, with remarkable diversity of soil types, and varying aspects and altitudes.

In 2004, the estate was extended with the purchase of a neighbouring vineyard which shared the treasured natural amphitheatre of rolling hills that surround Hentley Farm and resultant diversity of site. This single estate of 150 acres is Hentley Farm.

Thomas Hardy was one of the region’s first settlers and is widely regarded as the father of the South Australian wine industry. In 1980, Bec’s father Geoff left the then family-owned Hardys to make his own way in the Australian wine world. Inspired by her father’s passion for cultivating premium fruit and producing fine wines, Bec also went on to study and work in the wine industry in both Australia and overseas, including for her father’s company Wines by Geoff Hardy.

In 2015, Bec decided to make her own way in the Australian wine word and founded Bec Hardy Wines. In 2020, she acquired the Pertaringa wine brand from Wines by Geoff Hardy, becoming the first woman in the family to own vineyards and produce her own wine.

Our aim is simple; to create a portfolio of vibrant hand-crafted wines from Barossa Valley old vines where the finished products represent the vineyard and the vintage they came from. Our small-batch wines are not mainstream – they are new-age expressions of Barossa classics, designed to allow the fruit to speak for itself and tell a story through the glass.

Mosquito Hill Wines is a small, artisanal winery located in the picturesque Mt Jagged region of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

A surgeon by profession, founder and chief winemaker Glyn Jamieson cemented his love for the French styles of winemaking in the early 1990s, when he took study leave in France with his late wife, Elizabeth. After returning to Australia in 1994, the couple purchased a 200-acre property and Mosquito Hill Wines was born. Two vineyards were established in 1996 and 1998 then in 2004 the property’s first batch of wine was produced by highly regarded winemaker, Peter Leske.

Seven years later, a winery was built on site and since then Glyn, who also has a winemaking degree, has undertaken the wine making, always aiming for the style of Champagne and Burgundy, without down playing the flavours of the wines site of origin. In 2022, Daniel Franklin teamed up with Glyn and manages the vineyards, sales and distribution, while both Glyn and Daniel continue to make the Mosquito Hill wines.

Established in 1981, Haselgrove is surrounded by Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre – with the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines dating back more than 60 years. We also work with a group of dedicated McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills growers. Although renowned for producing award-winning reds from McLaren Vale, our whites are also making ripples with wine writers and on the wine show circuit.

The gods were smiling the day that Haselgrove came to life.
The site was chosen for a number of reasons, including aspect and soil composition, but lets face it, we are in the heart of Australian wine country and a perfect place to create world class and iconic wines.

Although established in 1981, it wasn’t until 1999 that the winery as it stands today was built. Change again was afoot, when in 2008 over a game of cards and couple of hearty reds four Italian-Australian industry veterans decided to purchase Haselgrove. Don Totino, Don Luca, Steve Maglieri and Tony Carrocci went to work injecting a heap of passion and ultimately revamping the brand, it’s presentation and it’s entire range of wines.
