Royal Adelaide Challenge Bowl – Friday 30th August 2024

A strong field of 30 teams competed in the Royal Adelaide Challenge Bowl. Teams were thankful as the forecast rain ever arrived however the wind was enough to keep everyone on their toes.

It was the Lucindale team, who hold a strong track record in the Challenge Bowl having won it three times previously that combined well to make themselves four time champions with a team total of 107 points. Congratulations to Nicole Hocking (37 points), Isobel Carracher (36 points) and Megan Watson (34 points) on their fantastic efforts. We were delighted to have Jen Gallery attend the event and present the trophy, in a nice twist of fate, winning team member Issobel Carracher attended school with Jen.

Bordertown also combined well and were the Runners Up in the event with 102 points, with Di Obst (40 points), Anna Dawes (34 points) and Fran Guy (28 point).

Lucindale and Bordertown had the winners marker covered with Nicole Hocking form Lucindale winning the Silver Individual event and Di Obst form Bordertown winning the Bronze.

Silver Division Winner – Nicole Hocking (Lucindale)

History of Event:

Donated in 1998 by the Fisher Family at the suggestion of Mrs Jenny Gallery.

The R.A.G.C. Associates Challenge Bowl, was initiated after Jenny Gallery had played in the Royal Melbourne Bowl and brought the suggestion to Royal Adelaide Golf Club.  So named as this was our challenge to other clubs to compete on our home course.

THE CUP

Sterling Silver Rose Bowl and intricately carved plinth originally given to Harold (RAGC Member) and Alice Fisher (probably by their children?) on their 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1915.  Alice always had the bowl adorned with flowers.

(2007 Band added to Plinth).

Originally passed to the eldest grand-daughter Sheila Fisher it was then passed to her niece Jenny Gallery. After playing in the Royal Melbourne Bowl Jenny thought to have a similar event at Royal Adelaide and to use the rose bowl as the trophy. With consent from the family the competition was established in 1998.
