Final

Royal Adelaide 3.5 defeated Kooyonga 1.5

Sunday 14th July at The Grange Golf Club (West Course)

Report courtesy of Jill McEwin

The day began with perfect weather with a small breeze. The Grange green staff had prepared the course hard and fast with very difficult pin positions. Exactly how it should be to find the champions.

Our girls were well prepared for the challenge and all seemed extremely calm as they set off.

Kat da Silva was first out of the blocks . She was faced with a strong opponent Maddie Fitzpatrick.

Kooyonga had shuffled their usual order but we were all prepared and accepted the challenge that lay ahead.

Kat in her usual style powered away and was 2 up at the turn. She won the 12th hole to go 3 up had gone back to 2 up on the 16th. On the 17th hole (8th par 3) she had a difficult down hill lie to lose the hole but undaunted won the 18th to claim our first victory 2 up.

Rachel Sweeney played Jodie Deacon. She drove well all day but her putter was cold and some different lies gave Jodie the match winning 4/3.

Fiona Morrison played Lane Trenorden. Fiona lost the first hole but her solid match play skills came to the fore. Fiona was 3 up at the turn. Lane then put the pedal down and grab all 3 holes ahead. Fiona won 17 and 18 to win 2 up. A necessary win to keep Laura and Eliza calm!

Laura Birchmore played Jill Trenorden. Laura played excellent golf all day. She remained square or 1 up all day. Finally seizing the match on the 18th after a stunning second shot off the pine needles left of fairway closing her match at 1 up.

Eliza Bartlett played Christine Hildyard. The match seesawed all day with great golf by both. We called Eliza’s match on the 18th when she was middle of fairway and 1 up!

It was a wonderful win by the girls seizing the Pike Cup for 2024. I was extremely proud of them all. All five have played every match with fine demeanour wonderful match play skills and never stopped fighting when the ball did not fall. We look forward to 2025 .

Thankyou to all RAGC golf operations and teaching staff. We could not have succeeded without all your assistance.

Semi Final

Royal Adelaide 4 defeated Mid North 1

Sunday 7th July at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club

Report courtesy of Jill McEwin

It was a successful day at Flagstaff Hill.

The trees seem to have grown more canopy and the girls found the odd branch deflection but not daunted they powered on and managed to garner three early wins. The weather was cold overcast and dull. Not helpful in pushing your ball forward.

Putting was extremely difficult on their fast sloping greens and any good chips never seemed to give a gimme. Everyone was hoping for an easy hole!

Kat da Silva led the way powering her first drive straight down the middle. (The only one not to touch a branch). Her day continued in that fashion and she finished with another wonderful win 6/5.

Rachel Sweeney was 1 down until the par 3 7th where she popped her ball a metre from the pin. She did not lose a hole after that with her superb iron play finally winning 5/3.

Fiona Morrison met Fiona Hockings again. A superb putter Fiona eventually had a wonderful birdie at 11 and continued to power home finishing 4/2.

Laura Birchmore was 1 down after 3 but her iron play was so superb that many birdies followed and Alex Nicholls had no chance. Laura finished a super round 5/3

Eliza Bartlett played Susan Keylock a former state player. They were neck and neck all day with beautiful golf.

We stopped play once our result was evident.

It was a wonderful win by the girls and we march off to the grand final at The Grange GC on Sunday 14th July, playing Kooyonga.

It has been a wonderful season with a wonderful group of professional women.

Eliza Bartlett was up all day playing superb golf and finishing with a win 5/4.

Laura Birchmore was square at 7 but then put the pedal down finishing with a win 4/3.

Fiona Morrison never gave her partner a chance. She was 3 up at 7 and stormed in with a 7/5 win.

Rachel Sweeney struggled early only turning the tables at 11 finishing on 17 with a magnificent chip and a final score 2/1.

Round 4

Royal Adelaide 1.5 lost to Kooyonga 3.5

Sunday 23rd June at Kooyonga Golf Club

Report courtesy of Jill McEwin

This was our toughest adventure this season playing Kooyonga at Kooyonga in a 7.30am start on a frosty morning.

The girls were delighted to try the new practice area under lights. Yes it was dark on arrival!!

Kat da Silva played a magnificent round chipping in twice on the 2nd and 6th (pictured) and finally demolishing her partner 7/5.

Rachel Sweeney met her match playing Mia. Rachel never lost her swing but was outsmarted near the hole losing 6/4.

Fiona Morrison was 2 down at 13 and managed to square the match at 18 with some superb golf.

Laura Birchmore played a perfect game of golf but her partner pulled out some smart shots on 16 and 17. Laura lost 2/1.

Eliza Bartlett found a few bunkers today remaining square most of the day but was finally defeated 4/3. We return home next week after 4 weeks on the road playing The Grange at 11.15am.

Round 2

Royal Adelaide 5 defeated Glenelg 0

Sunday 2nd June at Sandy Creek Golf Club

Report courtesy of Jill McEwin

Sandy Creek met the challenge as did my five hardy players who were not deterred by the tree lined fairways and stubborn kikuyu fairways. As the morning progressed the sun shone and there was no wind of which to speak.

We had five solid wins.

Kat da Silva won on the 17th hole 2/1 against Grace Ferrier. Rachel Sweeney had her first win 4/3 against Wendy Featherstone. Fiona Morrison won convincingly against Jo Rawson storming in with a 6/5 win. Laura Birchmore had a great win against Sam White winning 5/4. Eliza Bartlett (pictured playing into the 14th) had a tough match against Bec Hughes winning with a wonderful birdie on the 15th 3/2 .

All matches swung but the girls held onto their leads successfully.

Sandy Creek produced a beautifully managed manicured course.

The games were all exciting to watch and the girls enjoyed their success.

We have a two week break before returning to play Kooyonga on their home course.

Sunday 26th May at The Grange Golf Club (West Course)

Report courtesy of Jill McEwin

It was wonderful golf to watch at Grange West today. There was plenty of sand flying and ups and downs in all matches except Eliza Bartlett who played an extraordinary game against Susan Keylock winning 3/2.

Three matches went down the 18th.

Kat da Silva secured our first win 2 up on 18. Kat is pictured pitching into the 17th green.

Fiona Morrison squared on 18 after her partner repeatedly chipped or holed long putts to push Fiona on.

Laura Birchmore after a difficult middle section pulled out all stops and garnered a sensational win on 18.

Rachel Sweeney played beautiful golf but was defeated on 16.

Laura match was a thrilling finale to an afternoon of sensational golf performances.
