Country Week – 23rd July – 25th July

The 78th South Australian Women’s Country Week took place with events being held at Robe, South Lakes and Barmera Golf Clubs with over 20 members from Royal Adelaide taking part with varying degrees of success on the course and a lot of fun had off course.

Silver Salver at Robe Golf Club – Stroke – GA to 20.0
Report by Jill McEwin
Robe was brilliant and was well supported by some proper Robe weather.
We were sent out on the Men’s white tee blocks. A serious test of golf in fierce winds which became brutal late morning  on both days which tested all aspects of your game. There were loads of great stories!
Anne Ellis and Jill Mcewin were the only attendees from RAGC. They both had mild success!

Bronze Salver at South Lakes Golf Club – Stableford – GA 16.1 to 25.4
Report by Jane Bartlett
The Bronze Salver Country Week was held at South Lakes this week with 110 players from 23 different clubs taking part. It was fantastic to have a group of 15 Royal Adelaide women participating.

Most of us enjoyed a meal together on Monday night in Goolwa to start the week on a friendly note.

Day 1 was superb weather with no excuses for poor play and the scores reflected it. The winner came home with 42 points. Close behind in 3rd place was Deb Susman on 40 and in 4th was Leonie Hall on 39.

Day 2 was a different story with strong winds that even the locals had not experienced. At least it stayed dry.

Despite being windswept Di Moore came in 3rd with 37 points. Sandy Hayes 35, Vicki Thwaites 35, Deb Weir 35 and Leonie Hall 34 also posted very respectable scores.

The final results were tallied and we are pleased to report that Leonie Hall was runner up in the Bronze Salver.

Leonie would also have won the Veterans trophy except only one prize per person is permitted.

We had a lovely evening at the Wednesday evening presentation dinner with the greater percentage of raffle prizes going to RA women.

The girls randomly selected in the Metro team, who competed and won against the Country team on Day 1, also performed beautifully in their special rendition of a song vaguely resembling Mama Mia. Well done Sandy Hayes , Maureen Lavender and Vicki Jordan.

Day 3 Foursomes comp started out cold but calm and sunny only to lull us in to false comfort as the winds quickly picked up.

However once again the RA girls shone with Amanda Warden and Jude Willoughby winning the day on 37 points.

The week was fantastic and there was great camaraderie and fun.

Thank you especially to those women who provided accommodation to fellow club members and helped ensure we were all well looked after.

Golf Australia are yet to announce where the venues will be next year but look out for the announcement and put it in your calendars ladies.
